This blog delves into those incidents where the company has emerged as a saviour.

Tata Airlines was founded by J.R.D Tata in 1932, post World War II the company was converted into a public limited company. In 1946, the name was changed to Air India and it continued its operations as a government entity. Over the decades, poor management, heavy debt, entry of private players, and dwindling market share have pushed the government to privatize the airline. In their privatization attempt, the government failed to gain the interest of private players due to the large impending debts. In 2020 the government decided to dilute their stake and sell the airlines. Tata Sons stepped ahead and took hold of their long-lost baby, they officially had Air India under their umbrella in 2021. Thus starting a new chapter for Air India and the country’s aviation landscape.

BSNL once a market leader in the telecommunication sector started falling off the charts due to bureaucracy and slow management. BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) a public sector undertaking was established in 2000. Being a government entity it had market dominance, however, with the entry of private players Airtel, Vodaphone, and Idea, the company struggled to keep up with the infrastructure, technology, pricing, and customer needs. In the era where mobile phones were taking over, BSNL relied on their age-old telephones. When 3G/4G services were introduced BSNL focused on their cable networks. To date, the company has not been able to roll out 4G services. To help the ailing company, the government has joined hands with TCS, Tejas Networks, and the Center for Development of Telematics to successfully deploy a 4G network. Currently, the telecom industry is reduced to a few players – Reliance Jio, Airtel, and Vodaphone Idea. The government is working on a war footing basis to bring BSNL back in the game. Telecom minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has set up a Project Management Unit (PMU) and monitors the project daily. Thus the revival of BSNL will help to cool down the cut-throat competition in the telecom sector.
